Here at Missouri Midwifery we are very focused on ensuring that the health of both mom and baby is monitored to the fullest extent after birth. Our newborn care services are in place to make sure you go home with a happy, healthy mother and baby. Immediately after the birth, your baby is put in skin-to-skin contact with mom. This will instantly create a beautiful bond between you and your baby. It is also a great way to induce breastfeeding initiation.

This is an important and unique part of our process. By not separating you and your baby after birth, breastfeeding initiation becomes much easier and more natural. Everyone on our staff is certified to be a breastfeeding advisor. This means we can answer any questions and give you advice on the best techniques and most comfortable positions. We will make sure you are able to nurse your baby before returning home.

We make sure to provide you with the best newborn care possible. We will provide newborn screenings and file your birth certificate for you. We don’t want you to have to worry about a thing. We just want you and your baby to enjoy each other! Newborn screenings are an especially important part of newborn care. These screenings allow us to determine if there are any harmful disorders that might not be readily apparent at birth. Through some quick lab work, we are able to diagnose any issues and promptly take care of them. After you go home we will provide postpartum care through 6 weeks. You are, of course, able to contact us anytime after the birth to ask any and all questions you may have. When it comes to newborn care we want to make sure you know everything you need to know, and that you and your baby are healthy.

At Missouri Midwifery, every member of our delivery staff is a Certified Nurse Midwife. Our choice to only hire those who have completed the highest certifications in midwifery is a core element in our goal to provide the best care possible. Many clients are assured to have a midwife who also has training and certification in the medical field. A CNM can also assist in a hospital if there is a difficulty with the birth. The state of Missouri credentials CNMs as Advance Practice Nurses in the same category as Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Anesthetists.
